Moving Portraits

Community Development, Storytelling Sep 2011

In honor of the tenth anniversary of 9/11, the D.C. Mayor’s Office and StorySocial produced “Moving Portraits”. The installation documented where we have come in the ten years since 9/11 by asking the residents of Washington, D.C to share a word, phrase, or image that responds to “On 9/11/11….” The installation shared intimate moments about our own personal growth, but also explored how we, as friends, family, and strangers, remain connected ten years after the events that changed our nation and the world.

As creative director and producer, StorySocial set up mobile storytelling booths in Washington, D.C. to engage citizens on their experiences around 9/11, and also invite a selected group of them to share their stories in front of the camera.
